Wildlife Adventure - Visiting the Exciting World of AnimalsThe only contact most people have with nature is through TV documentaries on the Discovery Channel, wildlife photography from National Geographic magazine, or even through wildlife rugs made by the locals. Unfortunately, our modern life has all but eliminated the possibility of seeing a wild animal in our surroundings. What Is Wildlife Travel?Basically, wildlife travel involves visiting remote areas with the assistance of guides to view animals in their native surroundings. For instance, you might book an overall trip through the Serengeti to view elephants, giraffes and lions or take a small, specialty cruise deep into remote Alaskan waters to whale watch. These kinds of trips are rarely luxury excursions and can in fact be quite rugged. The point is not the comfort of the traveler but getting to the remote location where the animals, including endangered wildlife live. What Should You Consider Before Going On Wildlife Travel? The first thing that you need to consider when going into wildlife travel is your physical condition. We are not accustomed to walking long distances since we go everywhere in a car or via mass transit. Find out how much physical effort your proposed trip will entail. Even if you think that you can do it, take an experimental trek around a local mall - walk as far as you can, going up and down steps and over whatever obstacles you can create -- see how well you do. It's possible you'll have to go into training for your vacation!Once you have assured yourself that you are fit enough, find out what kind of clothing will be appropriate. Most probably you will need washable, durable outfits in muted colors. You do not want to be visible to the animals nor do you ant to use perfumes and lotions that will alert them to your presence. In fact, the major toiletry items you'll probably need are sun block and insect repellant. Don't forget to ask the travel agent about other accessories or equipment you need. Chances are you'll want binoculars, a camera for wildlife photography and perhaps a pocket knife. (Check with the airlines before you get to the airport. Security regulations change almost daily. Find out what you need to put in your checked luggage and what you can carry on. If you take a knife, it will definitely have to checked.) Will you need a backpack? Hiking boots? A walking staff? Ask all these questions and take what you need but also pack as economically as you can. Chances are good you'll be carrying your own luggage - probably on your back. Don't expect to find a five star hotel in the middle of the jungle. You'll probably have a decent bed - probably with mosquito netting - but bathroom facilities can be a challenge. Be prepared for almost anything in that regard including a bush by the side of the road. Continue to: Top World Wildlife Travel Destinations Related ArticlesFar Away From the Mundane Life!
