Equipments Required For Travel Tours for Disabled Adventure Tourists

There are some things that need to be considered for travel tours for disabled or when traveling with disabled tourists. First of all, it is necessary to take any medicine that the disabled person requires. Remember that it is highly improbable that a drug store will be available at the destination, so take enough medicine in case of an emergency.
(Many tour agencies will not take on the responsibility of dispensing medication. If the disabled person is not capable of handling their own medication it is probable that the company will require that they be accompanied by a care giver.)

If you wheelchair bound and use a chair with an electric motor you will need to discuss the nature of your equipment with the tour company. If the company does not have the necessary lifts to handle heavy, mechanical chairs, you may have to use a manual chair instead. The company will probably have rules about the kind of batteries that can be used. If you will be unable to take your mechanical chair and cannot operate a manual chair unassisted, the company may insist you travel with an able-bodied companion.

Individuals who must have a constant supply of oxygen may be more limited in their options for adventure travel. Because there is a danger of explosion with the tanks, it is simply not safe to attempt to take them into some areas of the world. Additionally, there is no guarantee that additional tanks will be available and it is not feasible to carry all the oxygen you may need for a given excursion. A good option for this dilemma is a cruise, perhaps a wildlife watching trip to Alaska. Although cruise lines have strict rules regarding oxygen as well, there is much greater flexibility to carry the equipment and to insure that your supply won't run out.

Finally, if you or someone close to you suffers from some kind of disability and you wish to take an adventure travel excursion, it's a wise idea to take out a disabled travel insurance policy. Things can and do go wrong and you want to be financially covered in that event. Check your disabled travel guide for destinations of interest to you and remember, with a little help from your friends, you can go virtually anywhere you want to go.
