Dive with Ease! Get Set for SnorkelingInterested in snorkeling? Yes? Then why you haven't tried it? Snorkeling is quite easy and doesn't entail the same problems as scuba diving. Just compare snorkeling gear with all the stuff that you need to use when submerging yourself in the water. There is a huge difference. What Is Snorkeling?Snorkeling consists of swimming on the surface of the water while using a diving mask and a breathing device called a snorkel. In some instance, the individual may choose to use fins or a wetsuit. Fins permit faster movement in the water while wetsuits keep swimmers warmer in cold water.Purpose Of SnorkelingThe purpose of snorkeling can be summed up in one word - entertainment. Snorkeling lets you observe underwater life in its natural setting without disturbing either the animals or their environment. Marine flora and fauna grow quickly accustomed to your presence and as long as they don't feel you are a threat, they will go on with their business undisturbed.Snorkeling GearAlthough snorkeling underwater sounds like an easy activity you can't just splash a little water on a cheap mask and dive in. You need to acquire good equipment and become familiar with some basic techniques. (You also need to be aware of what kind of aquatic life you will encounter, what safety precautions you need to observe, and if there are underwater obstacles in the area that can be hazardous.)The snorkel is the most important part of the snorkel set. This tube is what lets a person keep their head in the water. No snorkel, no air. Snorkel tubes are available in maximum lengths of 50 centimeters. If the tuber were longer, the pressure exerted by the water would incapacitate the lungs and would prevent inhalation. The rest of the snorkeling gear needs to be adjusted to the personal requirements of the individual who will be using the gear. Both the snorkel mask and fins should be a good fit. It's best to acquire these pieces from a dive shop and to have help in getting an appropriate fit. As an added bonus, you can now purchase disposable underwater cameras to record your snorkeling experience along with your other vacation photos. Hard core camera enthusiasts may want to investigate waterproof enclosures for their digital or 35mm cameras, but be aware these devices are expensive and often bulky. Kodak makes a 27 exposure disposable camera that is water proof up to 50 feet and comes loaded with high speed 800 film suitable for low light conditions in water. The cameras sell for approximately $12 and chances are good you can even get the photos developed at your hotel or onboard your cruise ship to relieve your experience over again as soon as possible.
