The Most Important Aspects of Scuba Diving Gear

Scuba diving gear is a tremendous sport. In snorkeling, you use only a mask outfitted with a breathing tube called a snorkel and swim fins. The swimmer stays close to the surface of the water and is in fact limited in depth by the length of the snorkel tube. Go too deep and you get a mouthful of saltwater!
Really all you have to remember to do is swim. If you get in trouble, you just stick your head up out of the water. In most cases, you are in water shallow enough that you could just stand up.

With scuba diving equipment, however, things change. You still use a mask but it is outfitted with a regulator attached to air tanks carried on the diver's back. While underwater, air is fed into the mouth through the regulator and the mask protects the diver's eyes from the harsh sea water.

A wet suit protects the diver because as depth increases, temperature decreases. The suits also give the diver a better and more efficient profile in the water. Swim fins permit the diver to maneuver easily through the water, conserving motion and thus using less oxygen.

Essentials Of Scuba Diving

Scuba diving is not for everyone. A degree of physical fitness is required and some people find that the breath apparatus makes them claustrophobic. You will need to enroll in a diving course and gain certification before you are allowed to dive on your own. Contact your local scuba diving association to find instructors in your area qualified to give scuba diving instruction classes. The lessons shouldn't be expensive and are absolutely essential to make sure you understand how to operate the equipment and will be safe in the water.

Top Scuba Diving Locations

A great majority of people say that the best place for doing scuba diving is the Caribbean. Its crystalline waters and large variety of underwater plant and animal life make it a popular location in close proximity to the United States. Other popular scuba diving locations include the Mediterranean, Asia Pacific and Oceania. Contact your travel agent and ask about available scuba diving packages. Begin with a basic package to get a feel for this kind of travel and then work your way up to some of the most exotic places the world has to offer.

Scuba diving trips can open up a whole new travel dimension you may have never considered. Check online to get a feel for organizing a scuba diving vacation, talk to your travel agent about scuba diving adventures, make sure you're certified with scuba diving equipment and then go get wet!
